Swedish Center of Biomimetic Fiber Engineering

"More than ever there’s a need to cross barriers", says Antonia Ax:son Johnson, founder of the Antonia Ax:son Johnson Foundation for Sustainable Development – one of the sponsors of Bioinspired Forum 2009 at AlbaNova.

Antonia Ax:son Johnson is happily engaged in one of Michael Dobry’s exercises during the break at Bioinspired Forum 2009, Oct 15. Designers, scientists and people from the industry created things with their hands and had a lot of fun during the process. Michael Dobry says that the purpose of this is to try to understand each other and to have the attitude: “We are all here to learn”. See Youtube videos from the seminar here.

What do you think about Michael Dobry’s exercise?
"I love his exercise, because it’s forcing us not to use our mind but to use our hands first, and then try to put it into words. That is the opposite of what we usually do so it is really difficult".

What is your take-home message from today’s conference?
"More than ever there is a need to cross barriers".

Why is biomimetics important?
"Because it’s a different way of thinking, a different way of approaching problems. And it would bring much greater creativity into the world of business – which is mine – but I’m sure also into the world of science".
